The conditions on the Texas death row are downright inhumane. After a person is sentenced to death, they are locked up in infinite solitary confinement until (often decades later) they are executed. Solitary confinement entails that death row inmates are not allowed to have contact with other people in prison and often spend almost 24 hours a day in their cells. They are subject to much more deprivation and harsher conditions than other prisoners. As a result, many experience declining mental health.
